You know reading is harder than it should be.
Maybe your child reads slowly, frequently loses their place, rereads the same words or lines, becomes frustrated, avoids reading, or has difficulty staying focused on the page.
What may be less obvious is what kind of help to look for next.
More practice?
A reading tutor?
Structured reading intervention?
Support for visual skills used during reading?
Sometimes the hardest part for a parent is simply knowing where to begin.
Eyes Up Reading begins with a Reading Vision Assessment so you can gather more information before deciding on the next step.

A Reading Vision Assessment is a short, one-on-one online Assessment designed to observe how the eyes move during reading-related tasks. Have a referral or promotional code? Enter it during checkout.
Eye-tracking and muscle-coordination can dramatically affect a child's reading experience. What is perceived as a reading issue could be a correctable visual processing issue. (1)
An estimated 1 out of 4 children struggle with reading and learning because of undiagnosed vision problems. (2)
An estimated 60% of struggling readers have unaddressed vision problems. (3)
Vision problems are often mistaken for dyslexia, ADHD, or low motivation. (4)
Seeing clearly (“20/20”) is just one of 15 visual skills critical to academic success. (5)
Reading requires eye-tracking. You need to fix the eye-tracking problems and fix the reading problems. (6)
Vision therapy and reading intervention are usually separate because they target different problems, but they can overlap when a child has both and can be
addressed simultaneously. (7)
Visual processing problems in children can be hereditary, caused by physical trauma, like birth canal pressure or a concussion or injury, or by emotional trauma. (8)
Visual tracking issues must be addressed directly, or they will last your entire life. (9)
The majority of the vision problems that interfere with reading and learning are very treatable, and can be corrected within a couple of months. (10)
A child who struggles with reading may need individualized help with reading skills, support for visual skills related to reading, or a combination of educational supports.
Eyes Up Reading does not assume the cause of a reading difficulty
from symptoms alone.
Eyes Up Reading begins with a Reading Vision Assessment so that we can determine your child's reading level, observe their eye movement patterns during guided visual activities, discuss what your child experiences while reading, and determine whether our educational approach may be appropriate.
The goal is to help you make a more informed decision about what to do next.

Reading instruction matters.
Skills such as phonics, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension may all be part of a reader’s educational needs.
Eyes Up Reading also considers visual skills used during reading.
That distinction is important because the Eyes Up Reading approach is not simply “more reading practice.”
The Reading Vision Assessment is conducted online through Zoom.
During the Assessment, a Reading Vision Assessment Specialist observes your child’s eye-movement patterns and assesses your child's reading ability.
Afterward, you continue with a consultation to discuss what was observed, ask questions, and talk about possible next steps.
This process can help answer a more useful question than simply, “Does my child need a tutor?”
The better question is:
“What kind of support should we consider based on what we are seeing?”
The Reading Vision Assessment costs $125 and is completed online from home.

Possible next steps depend on what is observed and what your family decides to do.
After the Assessment, you'll continue the Zoom meeting with a Reading Vision Tutor.
Together you'll discuss:
What we observed: We'll explain the reading and eye-movement patterns that were visible during the Assessment.
What may deserve attention: We'll discuss areas where individualized reading instruction or visual-skills support may be appropriate.
Your questions: You'll have an opportunity to ask questions about what you observed and what the next steps could look like.
Whether Reading Vision Tutoring is a good fit: If appropriate, we'll explain how one-on-one tutoring could be structured for your child.
Reading Vision Tutoring combines individualized reading instruction with support for visual skills related to reading.
Because tutoring is one-on-one, the tutor can work directly with the individual reader where they are at rather than placing them into a one-size-fits-all program.
If you are searching for a reading tutoring program because your child needs more individualized support, the next step does not have to be choosing a program based only on a search result or program description.
Start by learning more about how your child is reading.
Then decide what kind of support makes sense.

No. Reading difficulty by itself does not establish that a child has an eye-tracking or other visual problem.
The Reading Vision Assessment allows Eyes Up Reading to observe eye-movement patterns during guided visual activities and discuss whether visual skills related to reading may need to be addressed.
